Why WVSeniors?

WVSeniors is sponsored in part by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, WVU Center on Aging and West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services.

WVSeniors is an acronym for "West Virginia Statewide Educational Network and Informational Online Resources for Seniors" and is sponsored in part by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, WVU Center on Aging and West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services.

West Virginia has the highest median age in the U.S. at 38.9 years, ranks second in population of persons 60+ and third in 65+ years of age. As the Baby Boomers become Senior Citizens it is expected that the 65+ population will increase 166% in the state by the year 2025. This growth will place a greater demand for health and social services.

Our Goals

The West Virginia University Center on Aging, in conjunction with the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services, through WVSeniors will be expanding and creating new outreach efforts with the development of new tools to educate the elderly, their families, caregivers and local communities about aging well in West Virginia. This effort aims:

  • To increase public education about aging
  • To encourage healthy aging
  • To enhance the wellbeing of West Virginia's senior citizens
  • To reduce confusion when seeking information on services
  • To increase access to information about aging and issues surrounding aging
  • To increase service accessibility
  • To increase our knowledge and understanding of West Virginia's aging population and its needs
  • To integrate access to resources available at the county Senior Centers
  • To provide informational tools to service workers and caregivers
